Understanding Bacon County Releases
A Bacon County Jail booking can end in several ways. A person may post bond, receive a court-ordered release, finish a local sentence, have charges dismissed, move to another county, enter Georgia Department of Corrections custody, or remain held for another agency. Each outcome creates a different trail. “Released” does not always mean the person walked into the community. It can mean that the sheriff ended its custody while another agency began custody.
The live sheriff feed is built around current inmates. Once the jail closes a booking, the name may vanish from that feed. The earlier booking facts do not become a public release list, and absence alone does not prove why custody ended. The Bacon County Sheriff's Office record, bond or court order, VINE status, or receiving-agency record supplies the missing context. State prisoners at Bacon Transitional Center follow a separate GDC path.
- Release
- The end of one agency's custody, whether into the community or to another authority.
- Discharge
- The formal end of a sentence or a period of supervision.
- Time served
- Credit showing that time already spent in custody satisfies the ordered jail term.
- Detainer
- A request or hold from another authority that may prevent a community release.
Bacon County Release Types
The release reason determines the next useful record. Bacon County court and sheriff sources distinguish bond work from sentence and transfer records. A status should be read with the releasing facility, date, booking number, and case information rather than as a stand-alone label.
| Release path | What it means | Best next record |
|---|---|---|
| Bond | Custody ends after an approved bond is completed. | Sheriff release record and bond order |
| Time served | The local sentence is satisfied by credited jail time. | Sentencing order and jail release record |
| Court order or dismissal | A judge or case outcome authorizes release. | Relevant court docket |
| Transfer | Another jail, GDC, federal authority, or ICE takes custody. | Receiving-agency locator |
| Parole or probation | Custody ends with community rules still in force. | Parole Board, GDC, court, and DCS records |
| Maximum release | A state prison term reaches its maximum release date. | GDC offender detail |
A transfer row is especially important. It prevents a missing jail name from being mistaken for a free-community release. Confirm the receiving agency before relying on the old roster.
Bacon County Release Record Fields
An existing booking and release record ties the end of custody to the original jail event. Available fields vary, but a precise request should identify the person, approximate booking period, and known case or inmate number. Asking for an existing record is more effective than asking the custodian to create a new summary.
| Field | What it establishes |
|---|---|
| Name and identifiers | Which person and booking the record concerns |
| Inmate or booking ID | The link to the sheriff's booking entry |
| Booking date and charges | The custody event that came before release |
| Release date and time | When sheriff custody ended |
| Release reason | Bond, court order, time served, transfer, or another basis |
| Releasing facility | Which jail or institution closed custody |
| Destination or hold | Whether another agency received the person |
| Bond and court reference | The order or case tied to release |
The current OCV inmate feed shows name, inmate ID, age, race, gender, booking date, bond information, and charges in sampled entries. It does not publish a release-date field. Those booking fields can still help the records custodian locate the right release entry.
Request Bacon County Release Records
The Sheriff's open-records route accepts an online request and provides a PDF option that may be sent by email to sheriff@baconcounty.org or mailed to Bacon County Sheriff's Office, ATTN: Open Records, 307 South Dixon Street, Alma, GA 31510. A focused request should name the existing booking or release record and state the date range.
- Collect the full name, inmate ID if known, booking date, and court case details.
- Ask for the existing booking and release record, including release date, time, reason, and receiving agency.
- Use the sheriff's online route, email the completed form, or mail it to the records custodian.
- Review any cost estimate before copies or extended search work begins.
- Compare the response with the court or receiving-agency record when a transfer or hold appears.
Georgia's Open Records Act, O.C.G.A. § 50-18-70 et seq., governs access. The county form lists copying at $0.10 per page and permits search, retrieval, and direct administrative costs based on the lowest-paid qualified employee, with the first fifteen minutes not charged. The custodian is not required to create a report, compilation, or summary that did not already exist.
Bacon County Bond Release Process
Bacon County's sheriff app provides local detail about bond-out. A person arrested on Magistrate, State, or Superior Court charges may need to appear before a judge when no bond was set at arrest. If a Magistrate Judge cannot set the bond, a later bond hearing may be scheduled. This timing can keep a person on the current feed even when family members expect a quick release.
The sheriff describes cash bond, signature property bond, and a bond through an approved professional company. Cash and property bonds carry a $20 sheriff fee, and approval by the sheriff or a designee is part of the stated process. The official bonding information is the right source for current steps. A bond payment or order is not the same as a completed release. Processing and any other hold must clear before jail custody ends.
Bacon County Courts Confirm Release
Bacon County's court split explains why one release may touch more than one file. Superior Court handles felony jury matters. State Court handles misdemeanors and traffic matters and also works with warrants and preliminary hearings. Magistrate Court issues warrants and can set bail in some criminal cases. A jail release time, a bond order, and the final case outcome may therefore sit in different records.
Use the Bacon County court-system page to identify the court, then request the case record from the proper clerk. The GSCCCA clerk listing identifies the Bacon County Superior, State, and Juvenile court office. Court records can confirm bond, sentence, dismissal, credit for time served, probation, and later disposition. They do not replace the jail's custody record, but they explain the legal event behind it.
Bacon County Record Restrictions
A release is not a finding of guilt. Arrest, court disposition, and custody release are separate facts. Georgia record restriction can limit access to eligible criminal-history information, while sealing may limit public access to parts of a court file. Neither process should be described as automatic deletion of every record held by every agency.
Booking photographs receive added protection. O.C.G.A. § 35-1-19 limits an agency's release of a booking photo when a requester indicates it will be posted or passed on for posting and removal requires payment or other consideration. O.C.G.A. § 10-1-393.5 provides a removal route for some qualifying online arrest photographs. The sheriff links a booking-photo affirmation and a media request form, so a photo request should follow that process. Photo access does not prove release; the custody record does.
Find Bacon County Released Inmates
Begin with custody type, not a broad name search. Bacon County Jail, Bacon Transitional Center, BOP, and ICE use different systems. The last known facility narrows the path and reduces false matches.
- Check the Bacon County sheriff inmate feed only to see whether the person still appears in current local custody.
- If the name is gone, request the sheriff's existing release record and review the relevant bond or court docket.
- Search GDC with active and inactive records if a state transfer or state sentence is possible.
- Check Georgia VINE for custody-status support and the Parole Board or DCS when supervision may follow release.
- Use BOP for federal custody and ICE ODLS for immigration detention rather than treating those as county records.
For same-day checking, the Released Last 24 Hours page explains the local fallback chain. Bacon County does not publish a separate recent-release feed, so an official confirmation still comes from the record holder.
GDC Bacon Release Search
The Georgia Department of Corrections Find an Offender search covers state records, not every county jail booking. Its scope options include active, inactive, or both. Release-focused filters include “Released In The Past 15 Days” and “Max Prison Term Ending Next 15 Days.” Most Recent Institution choices include BACON COUNTY JAIL, BACON DETENTION CENTER, and BACON TC.
| Search field | Useful detail |
|---|---|
| Name | First and last names allow partial matching |
| GDC ID or case number | Best way to narrow a known state record |
| Scope | Inactive or all records can surface released people |
| Sentence status | Includes recent release and approaching maximum term filters |
| Institution | Can narrow results to a Bacon facility label |
| Conviction county | Connects a state case to Bacon County |
| Photos | Individual records show a photo when available |
The GDC offender information page provides the official entry and context. A state “inactive” result needs careful reading because it does not by itself state whether the person is free, under supervision, deceased, or held elsewhere.
The official GDC search entry is shown below. Its disclaimer precedes the detailed search form.

The form's active and inactive choices matter because a released state offender may no longer appear in an active-only query.
Bacon County Release Feed Limits
The Bacon County Sheriff's Office app exposes a current inmate feed, not a 24-hour or 72-hour released-inmate list. The app manifest places “Inmates” in the Jail menu, and sampled raw entries contain booking facts but no release date. No publication cadence or retention period is stated. A name that remains present supports current-custody checking; a name that drops off requires another source.
The statewide GDC “Released In The Past 15 Days” filter is a useful fallback only for state offenders. It cannot be recast as a Bacon County jail release list. For a local booking, ask BCSO for release date, release time, reason, and any receiving agency. For bond, check the court. For a GDC transfer, search GDC. For federal or immigration custody, move to that agency's locator.
Bacon Sheriff App Release Clues
The Bacon County Sheriff's mobile app can help with current booking and bond information. Its marketing says users can view inmates booked at the correctional facility and post bail. Research did not find a release-list module, so the app should not be treated as a historical release archive.
The app's limits are useful. A current entry can provide an inmate ID, booking date, charges, and bond facts that make a later records request more precise. After the entry disappears, preserve those known identifiers and contact the custodian. That approach is stronger than relying on a screenshot or assuming the time of removal equals the official release time.
Bacon County Supervision Records
Parole is release from a state prison term under Board conditions. Probation is a court-ordered sentence supervised in the community. The Georgia State Board of Pardons and Paroles provides the Parolee Database and TPM resources, while the Georgia Department of Community Supervision handles adult felony parole and probation in the community.
Bacon County is served by the DCS Douglas Field Office at 319 E. Ward St., Douglas, GA 31533, phone (912) 389-4431. The office lists weekday hours from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. A release from Bacon County Jail does not automatically mean DCS supervision applies. Confirm the sentencing court and use the Parole / Probation record paths when the case indicates supervision.
Bacon County Release Notifications
Georgia VINE supports custody-status checks and notification registration for participating agencies. Search by a name or known ID, match the agency and person details, and compare the result with the underlying sheriff or GDC record. VINE may show released or not-in-custody status, but it is not the official booking sheet or court docket.
Federal and immigration custody require different tools. The BOP inmate locator can show a past federal release date or that a person is no longer in BOP custody. ICE's Online Detainee Locator System covers ICE detention and some recently released cases described by ICE. Neither source should be used for a routine county booking unless the record points to that transfer.
Bacon County Detainer Transfers
The sheriff app has an Immigration Report/House Bill 1105 page that links quarterly Georgia Criminal Alien Track Reports. It is not an individual release search. It does show that immigration and detainer reporting is part of the local information system.
When a Bacon County Jail record says “transfer,” “hold,” or names ICE, do not assume the person entered the community. Request the sheriff transfer record and search the ICE Online Detainee Locator System. A federal criminal transfer belongs in BOP or the federal docket. The key question is which authority held the person after the sheriff ended its part of custody.
Bacon Release Status Compared
No single system covers all released people. The same name can also belong to more than one person, so identifiers and agency details should be compared.
| Person's status | Best source | What it can prove |
|---|---|---|
| In Bacon County Jail | Sheriff current inmate feed | Current local booking details |
| Released from the county jail | BCSO release record and court file | Date, reason, bond, or order |
| Transferred to state custody | GDC offender search | State status, institution, and sentence data |
| On parole or felony probation | Parole Board, court, and DCS | Supervision status and office |
| Federal prisoner | BOP locator | Federal custody or past release data |
| ICE detainee | ICE ODLS | Immigration custody result |
Always return to the source agency for a certified or complete record. Locator data can lag, and a “not in custody” label does not explain the legal reason.
Bacon County Facility Identities
Bacon County has two distinct facilities in this release workflow. Bacon County Jail, at 307 South Dixon Street in Alma, is the local sheriff custody route. A local release is verified through BCSO records, the court, and any receiving agency.
Bacon Transitional Center, at 165 Eastside Industrial Boulevard in Alma, is a state GDC facility. GDC's location page uses “Bacon Transitional Center,” while its contact block names Bacon Probation Detention Center. Both GDC facility pages show the primary number (912) 632-8157. Confirm the facility name and record system before seeking a release. State residents should be checked through GDC, parole, DCS, and notification records, not through a county release-list assumption.
